Replacing Batteries On Smoke Detectors

Video Transcription

Hi my name is Mario Zelaya with Platinum Home Warranty. Today I’m going to show you how to annually check and maintain your smoke detectors.

First, make certain that you have the right kind of battery, typically a 9-volt. Document the power to the smoke detector on the main panel, open the battery compartment to remove the old battery. Connect the new battery to the connectors and slide the battery door closed. Turn the power back on and use the test button to ensure the smoke detector is functioning.

Smoke detector batteries should be changed annually or sooner or if they begin chirping or flashing red, your Platinum technician will leave behind two 9-volt batteries when visiting your home.

Please ask if you need assistance.

Replacing Air Filters

Video Transcription

Hi my name is Mario Zelaya with Platinum Home Warranty. Today I’m going to show you how to check and maintain your air filters for your air conditioning system on a monthly basis.

We recommend using a standard pleated filter like this one opposed to a flat filter to help move the air. Take the filters out and hold it to the light if the dust on the filter is so thick that you can’t see much light shining through the filter it is time for a new one.

A clean air filter will save you money on energy costs and prolong the life of your air conditioner. If you do not know where your air filters are or how to replace them ask your Platinum HVAC technician to show you during your free HVAC check up.

Plumbing Help

Video Transcription

Hi my name is Mario Zelaya with Platinum Home Warranty. Today I’m going to show you a little bit about your shut off valves for your plumbing system in case of an emergency and how to check and maintain for leaks.

Check the shut off valve at each plumbing fixture to make sure they function properly. When you open any valve, open it all the way and turn it back to the other direction slightly, this will help prevent sticking in the open position. Bathroom valves usually are below the fixture for easy access; your toilet shut off valve is commonly located on the back wall approximately six inches above the ground on the left side as you face the toilet.

Below your kitchen sink should also be the shut off valves for both the hot and cold water, turn this valve off in the event of a leak or repair, turn the valve clockwise until it stops.

The main water line coming from the street is often connected to a water meter followed by a master shut off for the entire home, close this one valve and you have shut off the water throughout your entire house, this is great in an emergency situation because it is instant.
