Meet Platinum: Janet Avelar

By Platinum Team | Meet Platinum | October 15, 2018

This post is part of a series to help you get to know the members of our team. We’re real people who call Arizona home, not a big corporate machine! Head here for more Q&A’s with the Platinum team.

Tell us a bit about your personal background and family.

I have been married for 21 years to my husband, Leonard, and we have two beautiful daughters together. We enjoy spending time together up north or just at home. My favorite kind of weekend is when my youngest daughter is home from UofA, and we can all come together and be a family. Recently, my niece had a baby boy that I now enjoy babysitting during the week and on the weekends.

What has your career been like?

I have been with Platinum for five months. I found Platinum in early April and began later that month. Before Platinum, I worked for a pool service company for four years. I have also worked for another home warranty company for 14 years. Within that home warranty company, I led the authorizations department for 10 years.

What are your hobbies?

My girls are my hobbies. Spending time with my daughter in college and helping her wherever I can. I enjoy when she is home, or I go and visit her during the weekends. My older daughter is a teacher, and she also keeps me busy. That can be helping her with grading or going to watch her coach volleyball games. I have amazing friends that I love hanging out with.

What have you learned that you would love to share?

“There is no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” – Colin Powell

I have learned that failure can make you stronger, especially in the working field. I thrive to learn from others and become an expert to new tasks that are given to me. Challenges will always arise, it is how you rise with those challenges that help shape you. I have grown to rise to new challenges and achieve these new goals.

What does “home” mean to you?

Home is having a house full of family and friends. I am blessed to have such amazing people in my life that don’t need to call to say they are stopping by.  Everyone feels right at home. Home is watching my girls continue to grow and become intelligent women. Home is relaxing with my husband. We are very close family, and I love when we are all together just spending time with each other.
