Meet Platinum: Rick LaFave

By Platinum Team | Meet Platinum | August 20, 2018

This post is part of a series to help you get to know the members of our team. We’re real people who call Arizona home, not a big corporate machine! Head here for more Q&A’s with the Platinum team.

Tell us a bit about your personal background and family.

I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska and got my Bachelors degree from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I am married to my wife, Misty. I have four daughters and two step-daughters. My girls are 13, 12, 8 and 6 years old. My step daughters are 19 and 16.

What has your career been like? / How did you get started with Platinum?
After college, I moved to the Denver area and went into banking. I spent four years as a Branch Manager and specialized in mortgage, small business lending and financial planning. From there, I opened my own financial planning firm, and after two years went to run the mortgage division for the largest credit union in Denver. After leaving the credit union, I went to work for national tax firm. I wore many different hats in this role including helping to build a startup brand, running retail tax offices, consulting franchisees and, for my last two years, doing mergers and acquisitions. During this time, I also started a small business doing residential and window tinting. I started working for Platinum in July, and I am focused on growing relationships with Realtors, insurance agents and other referral partners.

What are your hobbies?
Outside of work I spend most of my time with my kids. I have a gymnast, a cheerleader and an actor/artist that keep my busy. When I am not with my kiddos, my wife and I enjoy traveling, movies and socializing with friends. I am an avid sports fan and love to cheer for my Denver Broncos and Nebraska Cornhuskers football teams. We are always up for social occasions.

What have you learned that you would love to share?
I love the John Maxwell quote, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Throughout my career, I have always put people first — my staff, coworkers and clients. I welcome the opportunity to get to know the people I work with and my clients. I welcome the opportunity to sit down and have a nice cup of coffee to get to know my Realtors and other referral sources. It is my goal to be someone you know, like and trust.

What does “home” mean to you?
Home to me is a house that is loud, fun and loving. I have a big family and a lot of girls! It’s loud and often full of their friends too. I love to cook dinner for my kids, usually something on the grill. A home is where my kids can be themselves. Let their hair down and be silly. A home is a safe place filled with those you love. The most important job I have in life is to raise my kiddos. We are frequently watching movies, playing games (my six year old is a master of UNO), and catching up.
